Jord: Dawn of a World
Fort Marroth is the central fortress and base of operations for The Inevitables. It is located midway between The Halls of Stone and the Shifting Cliffs, on Gurgaron‘s east coast. It is a mere 3 days’ march from The Maw, where the bulk of Inevitable forces see use.
Numerous smaller Inevitable forts dot the forest and mountains near the Maw, often serving as the front lines against the undead threat. The Inevitables at these forts and Fort Marroth refer to themselves as the “Keepers of the Maw”— an honorific that zealous members hold over the heads of expeditionary forces elsewhere in Jord. Fort Marroth stands ready to support its smaller contingents should the need ever arise, and it forms the main supply line from Central Gurgaron to forces in the East. The forces at Fort Marroth number in the thousands, and supply stores could withstand a years-long siege (not that undead are known to besiege anything). The fortress also has a strong alliance with the Dwarves for trade and military goods, and dwarves compose approximately 40% of Fort Marroth’s forces (the Greys are more diverse elsewhere on the continent).
Fort Marroth has stood so long against the undead tide that no man or woman within its walls fears the fortress will fall. Their main fear is of something newer— the Darkworld forces plaguing the Undercity of Jatul’s Shadow spread east through the Grimdark, and no one quite knows their goals, capabilities, or numbers. If they somehow overcome the undead hordes underneath Gurgaron, the Inevitable Fort Marroth may be fighting an entirely different war.
